Many customers use Windows Server 2019 and Windows 10/11 with Remote Desktop Services to deliver SAP Business One to their users (as do many other ERP vendors). In the latest Patch Tuesday release (September 2022), there’s a significant issue that can block users using RDP from accessing their deployments on Windows Server 2019 that utilise the UDP protocol with Remote Desktop Gateway, which is a Microsoft recommended best practice.

“Are you using Remote Desktop Services with Windows Server 2019/Windows 10/11?”

Patch Day: The Workaround Fix

The problem appears to be due to the fact that the RDS connection is trying to connect over UDP and is not trying to connect over TCP if the UDP fails.

If you add the following registry setting, the Remote Desktop Connection will work.

You have to set this value to 1 in the registry for Windows 11 client to work outside the network.

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\Terminal Services\Client

KEY VALUE – fClientDisableUDP SET TO 1

Bear in mind this appears to be related to the utilization of UDP as a protocol for RDP and should be monitored as Microsoft rectifies the underlying issue and should be reversed once the issue is resolved

Thanks to all who contributed to finding the issue and resolution documented in the thread located here.
